Why Choose Logstairways

Quality, Craftsmanship, and Value

Schneider Construction, a family-based company owned by Dan and Lisa Schneider, got its start as a residential construction business in 1979. We have been building log homes since 1986 (Click here to read About Us).

As a way of improving the quality and cost efficiency of stairways for the homes we were building, we began pre-constructing log stairways and log components in our shop. We quickly learned the advantages of constructing log components in a controlled and well-equipped environment, and so we started advertising to other builders and homeowners about this service. As a result, our Logstairways Division was launched in 1997. We offer personalized service--listening to our customers' needs and designs to make their stairway a focal point of their home. We pride ourselves in meeting the timetables and expectations of our customers and in producing beautiful pieces that are unique in design and function.

In addition to four basic styles of log stairways, (mortise and tenon, full scribe, spiral, and curved), we offer sweeping stairways that combine spiral and straight-run styles. Pre-assembled railings, landings, posts, and other log components are constructed to fit each owner's decor and complement the stairway unit. We also offer custom-made fireplace mantels with scribed log supports, as well as log king post and truss systems for porticos and greatrooms. Log beds and other furniture are available upon request.

Advantages of Logstairways Preconstructed Stairways

If a stairway is included in a log home package, the company will usually only provide the materials for a stairway. These materials may sit on the job site for weeks or months exposed to the elements and getting warped, discolored, or discarded. Not all builders define their trade by stairway construction, and so the stairway built on site is often out of code and poorly constructed. Pre-constructed log stairways result in fewer building delays and a better quality product. We customize each project to customer needs and local housing construction codes.

To ensure quality, we only use raw materials that have been both kiln dried and air dried. Our stock is white cedar for our posts and railings and white or red pine for the stairway units. We work with a local mill for custom cutting and kiln drying of the pine stock. All of our materials are hand drawn and selected specifically for their intended use. In 2000 we upgraded our shop to accommodate several projects at different stages of construction. We also expanded and improved our storage facility to ensure the correct moisture content of stock that we use. With the aid of this carefully controlled environment, state-of-the-art specialty tools and hoists, skilled staff produce a quality product. In 2005, we enlarged our production area with another addition that is designed to accommodate our curved stairways.

All posts and railings come pre-drilled and pre-assembled so the owner just has to insert railing sections and secure with the hardware we provide. Our Mortise and Tenon Style stairway comes fully assembled for less on-the-job assembly (Our Installation Guide shows how easy installation is). Our full scribe style and spiral style stairs require assembly, but we supply an instruction sheet with detailed directions of installation for each individual stairway. We offer installation services to complete our package, but basic knowledge of construction and fundamental tools are all that is required for re-assembly. We supply any required specialty tool to the builder or homeowner along with the hardware necessary.
